About Appendicitis

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix, which is a large pouch attached to the large intestine. Appendicitis can be a very painful condition, usually requiring immediate attention and/or removal, and can be fatal if left untreated. This condition may be caused by an obstruction of the appendix's lumen, a tubular structure, causing mucus to accumulate and the appendix to swell.
