Albuterol Inhaler

An albuterol inhaler is an inhaled bronchodilator drug, which helps promote easier breathing and improved air flow to the lungs. Albuterol is the generic name of the drug, which is also available under the brand names Salbutamol (sold in Canada) and Ventolin. Albuterol is a common treatment for people with diseases of the airway, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Albuterol is a liquid solution that is administered through an inhaler, which allows the medication to be breathed directly into the lungs. Albuterol eases symptoms such as trouble breathing, tightness in the chest, and wheezing by helping the muscles in the airway to relax and widen, allowing more air to pass through to the lungs.

I didn't know I had a breathing problem until my doctor told me to get a spirometry test after a bout with extended bronchitis symptoms following a cold. After clearing up the phlegm, and getting the spirometry, he put me on Ventolin HFA. I've tried it a couple of times when I got out of breath and I breathed better in a few minutes, but the same thing happened when I didn't use it - the breathlessness went away in a few minutes.10/9/2011 at 05:36 PM
