I was only 47 when I had surgery. I am cancer free almost 2 years later, but quality of life sucks. Had difficulty with ed and then because of that now have Peyronies disease. Pretty much had ruined my marriage and any hope of a normal sex life again. If I had the chance again I would have waited on sugery as a last resort.12/23/2011 at 09:00 PM

This is something that varies greatly from physician to physician. I initially took the Lupron shots to block testosterone from my first oncologist and then transferred to Compassionate Oncology. I remain on Lupron but in a combination with oral hormones and testosterone. During the phase when your testosterone is completely shut down and you are on female hormones, it is a very difficult time as you will see changes from emotions to your body.8/20/2010 at 03:19 PM

After they found the cancer had already spread to the lymph nodes, the first course I took was a combination of chemotherapy and radiation for about 3 months. Although the tumor got smaller, it wasn't stable with the lymph node involvement. I then went to Los Angeles to Compassionate Oncology where although they use traditional drugs, the manner in which they are prescribed and the treatment course is very different than just straight chemotherapy. This treatment has kept the cancer under control for 6 years, although it is still present. I will always be on medication to control the disease, much like a diabetic would be for their life.8/20/2010 at 03:17 PM

All scans showed the tumor was contained in the prostate gland. However, 9 out of the 10 biopsies taken to diagnose the disease were positive. Prostate Cancer is graded on Gleason Scale of 1-10. Mine was an 8. When the opened me up for surgery, they found tumors that were up in the pelvic area and outside the prostate so they took some lymph nodes but there was no reason then to remove the prostate.8/20/2010 at 03:14 PM
