About Seasonal Allergies (Hayfever)

Seasonal allergies are unique allergies that occur only at certain times of year. Allergies are mild allergic reactions that cause inflammation of cells in the nasal airway. Such inflammation is also known as allergic rhinitis. Symptoms of seasonal allergies include sneezing, runny nose, fatigue and in some cases fever. Seasonal allergies vary in severity. Causes of seasonal allergies are often plant based. Airborne pollens and mold spores are especially prone to cause seasonal allergies in humans. Pollenosis and hayfever are two widely used terms referring to seasonal allergies caused by plants. Seasonal allergies do not usually develop before 10 years of age. Because seasonal allergies can be caused by trees, grasses, weeds or flowers allergy testing has been developed to determine which particular plant the individual is allergic to. The proper medication is dependent upon the particular plant. There are a wide range of medications on the market to treat seasonal allergies. Some are over the counter, some are prescription.
