About Spondylosis

Spondylosis is a condition in which osteoarthritis develops in the spine as a result of wear and tear and destruction of the cartilage in the vertebrae. Spondylosis may also indicate degenerative disc disease. There are two types of spondylosis: cervical spondylosis (in the vertebrae in the neck) and lumbar spondylosis (in the vertebrae in the lower back). Allied disorders that often accompany spondylosis include spondylopathy (a disease of the spine) and myelopathy, in which the spinal cord becomes compressed due to narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis). Spondylosis can cause sharp, shooting, and intermittent pain in the arms and legs, neck, and back, and may also affect motor skills and the ability to walk.
