Calcipotriene, Calcipotriol (Dovonex, Dovobet)

Calcipotriene is a synthetic vitamin D3 derivative medication that is often used to treat the skin condition psoriasis. Calcipotriene is a type of vitamin D. Calcipotriene decreases skin cell production to help slow the growth of excess skin. Calcipotriene may also be known by the name calcipotriol, and the brand names Dovonex and Dovobet (which also contains betamethasone diproprionate). Calcipotriene/calcipotriol is available as a topical cream medication that you rub into the skin, and also as a liquid solution that can be rubbed into the scalp. Using calcipotriene may cause a skin rash, or some peeling, burning, or itching on the skin where the medication is applied. While calcipotriene can't cure psoriasis, it can help manage symptoms.
