Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to alleviate general pain and inflammation. Ibuprofen controls pain and reduces inflammation by inhibiting the release of a substance in the body that triggers inflammation, fever, and pain. Ibuprofen is the generic name for the common brand names Advil and Motrin. Ibuprofen is available over-the-counter and as a prescription in stronger doses. Ibuprofen is often taken to help manage symptoms related to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, menstrual cramps, and fever. Ibuprofen may also help alleviate headaches, muscle aches and pains, back pain, and may also reduce fever. Ibuprofen is available in different dosages to manage symptoms in infants, children, and adults.
