Imitrex

Imitrex (sumatriptan) is a medication that is typically prescribed to manage the pain and associated symptoms of migraine headaches. Imitrex, also known by the generic name sumatriptan, is a selective serotonin receptor agonist medication. Imitrex alleviates migraine headache pain because it blocks the signals of pain so that the brain can't receive them, and it causes the blood vessels in the brain to narrow. Imitrex is not effective in preventing migraine headaches. Imitrex is available as an injection (administered beneath the skin by a needle), a nasal spray, and also as tablets taken orally. Injectable Imitrex may also be used to treat cluster headaches.
