Condition: Non-Traumatic Joint Disorders

Home > Publications > Condition: Non-Traumatic Joint Disorders

Non-traumatic joint disorders are conditions that were not caused or triggered by some sort of accident, injury, or other trauma. Non-traumatic joint disorders affect areas of the body where bones come together, such as the hips, knees, shoulders, or ankles. A joint disorder may be caused by trauma such as a sports injury or car accident, but may also develop due to general wear and tear on the joint. Non-traumatic joint disorders can include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), and gout. A non-traumatic joint disorder may be a chronic condition that cannot be cured, but may be managed. Regular exercise and maintaining a healthy body weight can help promote healthy joints and improve joint function in those who have non-traumatic joint disorders.
