Condition: Other Pericarditis, Endocarditis, And Myocarditis

Home > Publications > Condition: Other Pericarditis, Endocarditis, And Myocarditis

Other pericarditis, endocarditis, and myocarditis are three inflammatory conditions affecting tissues in the heart. Other pericarditis, endocarditis, and myocarditis are types of carditis, which is an inflammation of heart tissue, which cannot be defined or does not match the typical symptoms of these types of carditis.

Pericarditis affects the pericardium (the membrane that surrounds the heart); endocarditis affects the endocardium (the tissues that line the inside of the heart chambers), and myocarditis affects the heart muscle itself. Other pericarditis, endocarditis, and myocarditis may be caused by various types of viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. Inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, may also cause pericarditis, endocarditis, and myocarditis.
