Cholesterol is a collection of small molecules in the blood that control membrane permeability and fluidity, and while high blood cholesterol is not a disease, but can lead to various cardiovascular conditions if not treated properly. The elevated levels can be due to a genetic pre-disposition, another health condition, or a high-cholesterol diet.
