Gastritis is the inflammation of the stomach lining. It can be classified as acute (short term and sudden) or chronic (slow progressing over time). Ongoing gastritis can cause burning in the upper abdomen (indigestion), nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, belching and bloating. There are many causes of gastritis: alcohol consumption, bacterial infection (H. Pylori), overuse of medications (Aspirin), autoimmune diseases (Lupus), or bile reflux. It is not a life-threatening condition but left untreated can lead to serious gastrointestinal issues.
