Hydrocortisone

Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid medication that relieves inflammation. Hydrocortisone is a synthetic (artificial) version of a hormone that is naturally found in the body and produced by the adrenal glands. Hydrocortisone may be used to manage arthritis, allergies, asthma, skin conditions such as eczema, conditions of the intestines, and other inflammatory conditions. Hydrocortisone cream may also be used to ease irritated, itchy skin from an allergic reaction. Hydrocortisone is available in many different forms, including a topical cream that is rubbed into the skin, a suspension solution that can be inhaled, and a pill that is taken by mouth. Topical hydrocortisone creams are available both as prescription and over-the-counter medications.

My son has really bad Eczema, and we haven't found an effective treatment for it once it flares up. It seems like prevention really is the best treatment. In our experience, if you can manage to keep it at the 'mild' stage, it's a lot easier to live with than once it flares up.2/4/2010 at 10:46 AM
