Valium is the brand name version of the generic drug diazepam. Valium is often used to manage the symptoms of anxiety disorders, as well as alcohol withdrawal symptoms, some seizures, irritable bowel syndrome, panic attacks, and sometimes muscle spasms. Valium must be taken with care, as the drug can be habit-forming. Valium is available in liquid form, a tablet, and an extended-release capsule.
